Titled Ringmaster, the new collection had a circus theme, which was appropriate considering how the scene at Lincoln Center often. Zimmermann interprets the concept literally, adding ruffles theatrical neck dresses diaphanous organza with a pattern diamond harlequin, and incorporating a print drippy black “mask” and white (an ode to stage makeup melting) in various looks, including the final number worn by Ruby Jean Wilson.
While most girls would not be caught dead in clothes with clown faces on them (some parts made in the mix), the line was never perceived as too costumey. Highlights include an eyelet lace dress graphic “cross-body” bow-almost-acrobatic cuts on the bust and torso, as well as a layer of champagne-colored satin with a curved asymmetric tail and a pink soft leather circle skirt. Although Zimmermann is best known for their swimsuits, bikinis racy seemed out of place here sometimes; but overall, things are looking up for Down Under the brand in the United States.
